CALIFORNIA JUDGES PENSIONS IN CALPERS MASSIVE REAL ESTATE LOSSES COULD BE GAINS INSTEAD

Almost two million people – employees, retirees, spouses, children and other beneficiaries – rely on the largest public pension fund in the nation, California Public Employees’ Retirement System “CalPERS,” in one way or another for retirement income or health benefit security. This fund provides retirement benefits for 1.6 million active and inactive state and local government workers, retirees and their families, and manages healthcare benefit programs for 1.3 million people, including California judges.

The security of these benefits might depend on CalPERS standing up to Wall Street banks to demand loan modifications to serve the best interest of the investors they sold all the toxic securities to. CalPERS managers must demand that Wall Street modify loans to save CalPERS from massive losses and to stabilize the California real estate market as a whole. Don’t let Wall Street fool you CalPERS, for now you still receive a small pass through on your real estate investments, but with the current rate of liquidation and level of defaulted loans, soon there will not be enough active loans to even pay the paltry pass through rate you receive now. The more loans you allow them to foreclose on, the value of the securities sink lower, and soon your holdings will be a total loss.
